Central tendency
Filtered set, combined and split by source
Valuation multiples
Asking price ÷ trailing earnings (SDE for Transworld, net cash flow for Synergy) — the standard lower-middle-market rule-of-thumb multiple. Only listings that report both figures. See the multiple chart in At a glance above.
Multiple & margin summary
Median / p25 / p75 asking-price multiple, plus implied profit margin where revenue is reported (Synergy)
Geography
State parsed out of each listing's location text. Only Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Texas, Tennessee and Virginia are pinned as the Southeast quick-filter — that's the region called out as the starting focus; everything else still shows up here for context. See the state leaderboard in At a glance above.

Sector mix
Top sectors by listing count, with median asking price per sector. Every source names sectors its own way, so individual broker sites and the networks/MLS are shown separately.

The Hound Score
A transparent, rules-based 0–100 screen — no AI, just arithmetic on the fields already on file, so it's fully auditable per listing. It rewards disclosure (earnings on file, a specific location, a low-risk reason for sale) and penalizes the exact things worth passing fast on: customer concentration, key-person dependency, legal exposure, urgency language, and multiples that look mis-stated. It is a screening prompt for where to spend diligence time first, not a verdict — always read the actual listing.
Score distribution
Filtered set
How it's scored
Starts at 50, then:
+15 earnings (SDE / cash flow) disclosed
−10 no earnings disclosed
+10 specific location on file (not just "United States")
+10 retirement / succession disclosed as reason for sale
−25 customer concentration mentioned
−15 key-person dependency mentioned
−15 litigation / legal exposure mentioned
−10 divorce / partner dispute, or urgent-sale language
+10 multiple in the 2x–6x "normal" range
−10 multiple under 1x or over 15x (likely a data error — verify)
Seller-quality & diligence signals
A keyword scan of each listing's own marketing description — Synergy and FacetWP's abb-businessbrokers.com carry usable description text; Transworld, VR, blueridgebrokerage.com, and the bespoke pilot sites don't (that pilot batch was extracted for title/price/financials, not full narrative text; BizBuySell's sample is too small to be meaningful either way). Read as a screening prompt, not verified diligence: always confirm with the actual CIM.
Reason for sale (disclosed)
Risk language flagged
Mentions worth asking the broker about directly — concentration, key-person dependency, legal exposure, "must sell" urgency
Data completeness
What share of each source's listings (unfiltered) actually carry the fields analytics depends on
Not built yet
What this page can't answer yet, and why:
- Days-on-market / listing velocity — needs the same listing tracked across repeated scrapes over time, the way BizBuySell already is (see its own page). Transworld and Synergy are currently one-off snapshots; turning them into a daily/periodic monitor is a scraping-infrastructure change, not something this page can compute from a single pull.
- Recency filters (today / last 30 / 90 / 180 days) — blocked on the same gap: no listing date exists yet for Transworld or Synergy.
- Broker inbound-email ingestion into this dataset — a separate pipeline (parsing broker digest emails into records) that hasn't been connected here yet.
Reading these numbers
Caveats before citing these figures externally:
- All four sources are one-off snapshots of currently-live listings, not a time series — there's no listing date, so "new deals this week" isn't answerable from this data yet. BizBuySell is the only source tracked day-over-day (see its own page for that trend).
- Multiples use SDE for Transworld and net cash flow for Synergy — VR and FacetWP have no earnings field at all, so they never get a multiple. These aren't identical earnings measures even where they exist, so treat the combined histogram as directional, not a single clean comp set.
- Reason-for-sale and risk flags are a plain keyword scan over broker-written marketing copy, not underwriting — sellers and brokers write descriptions to sell, so absence of a flag is not the same as absence of the issue, and presence of one needs a human read of the actual listing.
- The Hound Score is only as good as what's on file — a listing with no description text (Transworld, VR, blueridgebrokerage.com, the bespoke pilot) can only ever score on price/location/multiple, never on reason-for-sale or risk language. Don't compare scores across sources as if they measured the same thing.
- The "Bespoke pilot" source is 12 of 218 domains from the bespoke-"easy" cluster (see the Roadmap page), extracted by hand as a proof of concept — most sites' listings were paginated and only page 1 was captured (noted per-domain in the underlying data file), and one site (sellbuybrokers.com) had a template bug that made several listings share identical placeholder financials; those specific fields were left blank rather than kept.
- FacetWP's abb-businessbrokers.com listings never show an asking price on purpose — that template has no structured price field, and an early version of the scraper mislabeled a revenue figure as the price; leaving it blank beat shipping a wrong number. Also only 65 of its 83 listings are captured — the rest need FacetWP's AJAX pagination.
- No listing carries a deal status (active / under LOI / sold) — every count here is "currently listed," not "available right now."
